From the Oldest to the Youngest, the Gospel is for Everyone

Updated: Jul 3

On Day 21 of our May/June 2026 campaign, after traveling more than 1,200 miles from southern Ghana, north across Togo, into south Benin, and back to northern Ghana, approximately 18 villages converged in a remote community about 20 miles north of Yendi for a special Women's Day event. The purpose of the gathering was to encourage the women in these congregations to remain steadfast in their walk with Jesus.

More than 1,400 women made the journey by motorcycle, motor-tricycle, and on foot. It was a day filled with singing, prayer, and opportunities for the American women on our team to share words of encouragement with their beloved sisters in Christ.

At the conclusion of the program, the gospel message was presented, followed by an invitation for anyone who had not yet put on Christ in baptism.

With a gathering this large, it seemed almost certain that someone was ready to take that step.

Yet no one responded.

Perhaps no one wanted to be the first to come forward before such a large crowd.

Another invitation was given.

Still, no one moved.

Then the crowd turned as an elderly woman slowly made her way forward with the assistance of another woman. We rejoiced, prayed with her, and invited everyone to accompany us to the river, about a quarter of a mile away.

Just before we departed, a man approached us with his daughter. She was thirteen years old and wanted to be baptized. We quietly discussed whether she was old enough to make such a decision, but her father assured us that she had come to him requesting baptism. This was her decision, and he believed she was ready.

Again, we rejoiced.

One of the oldest women in the crowd and now one of the youngest. What beautiful imagery.

The gospel is for everyone.

Someone carried the elderly woman on a motorcycle to the river, while a few hundred others made the walk on foot.

When we arrived, she had to be carefully helped down the steep bank to the water's edge as the little thirteen-year-old girl awaited her turn.

As she confessed her faith and was immersed in the muddy river, the crowd stood in complete silence. Not a word was spoken. Every eye was fixed on this beloved matriarch as she took this step of faith.

As she was helped back up the riverbank, her face broke into a smile. She giggled and laughed with a childlike joy, radiating a sense of peace that touched everyone who witnessed it.

By the end of the day, 56 people had been baptized into Christ's kingdom.

From the oldest grandmother to a thirteen-year-old girl, the call of the gospel continues to reach hearts of every age.
